In Ukraine floral headdresses have a long tradition

Known as vinoks, they were historically worn by young, unmarried women to signify a peaceful, clear sky above her head. 

The Ukrainian wreath—beauty and tradition intertwined. Today, it is hard to imagine the image of a Ukrainian woman without this headpiece, which boasts a centuries-old history.

A floral wreath is depicted on the sarcophagus of Yaroslav the Wise. Historians believe that the Ukrainian wreath symbolizes a peaceful, clear sky above the wearer's head, serving as a charm against evil forces and misfortunes.
